Evaluations for Developmental Delays or Differences

Seeking support for your child’s possible developmental delay or difference can be an overwhelming process. Liberty POST strives to make the process as easy as possible to understand.

Liberty POST is able to evaluate any child who may have a delay or difference in development. We work with parents and guardians, as well as teachers and childcare providers, in order to fully understand all aspects of the development of each child.

Evaluations Offered By Liberty POST

  • Early Intervention (EI)* Evaluations: For children ages birth to 3 years old
  • Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) Evaluations: For children ages 3 to 5 years old
  • Diagnostic Evaluations: For formal diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Private Evaluations for Specific Areas of Need: To address your specific concerns about your child
  • Audiology & Auditory Processing Evaluation (Syracuse Region only): For concerns regarding hearing loss

Evaluations may take place in the home, at school, or at daycare depending on the preferences and needs of the child and their family. If your evaluation requires you to go through your county or school district, you can request that Liberty POST performs the evaluation.

A trained Liberty POST evaluator will use activities, books, and toys to observe any specific areas of concern and overall developmental progress. They will use play or other age-appropriate methods to get to know each child and make them feel as comfortable as possible. In addition, our evaluators will use the most up-to-date assessment materials to determine eligibility and to make our recommendations.

The evaluator will discuss their observations with the parent or guardian once the evaluation is complete. If your child is being evaluated in a school or daycare setting and you are unable to attend, we will work with a trusted adult such as a teacher or program director. We will follow up with you afterwards to share the results.

If the child is eligible for services, a member of the Liberty POST evaluation team will work with your family and collaborate on the next steps.

*Liberty POST is an approved evaluator under New York State’s Bureau of Early Intervention (ages Birth-3) and New York State’s Department of Education. EI and CPSE evaluations are provided at no cost to families.
